Numbers USA people are angry right wing citizens.
Calls from legal aliens who can't vote won't move lawmakers one bit. Money and votes are the only 2 things that matter to politicians.
Pressure groups and lobbyists have far more reach and influence. IV as a group can use lobbyists and other influence to get a lot more done. Individual phone calls are a waste.

Despite the fact that the CHC has gone on record saying they will not support legal immigration reform unless it also has amnesty provisions, and the three bills are solely for legal immigration ?

This is how I used my EAD. I filed 485/EAD/AP in July 2007. I did not do anything till Feb-2008. I made a call to my employer in Feb-2008 (6 months after I-485) and asked him to give me a raise. He was aware of the fact that I can use AC-21 and leave anytime. We renegotiated everything, this time heavily in my favor (for a change). I got 20% salary hike effective from that very day. I kept same employer, same job, same client but used EAD and AC-21 to put pressure on my employer. Needless to say, in the past, I have been on the receiving side of the pressure from employers because of H1-B too.

As I said in the preface of the list, the bigger objective here is to take certain steps, including proper documentation (e.g. points 2, 3, 4 and 5), in order to maintain PR status. Besides, you never know what documents you would be asked to produce, given that the citizenship process involves more extensive background checks than the GC process. Also, having a log of exit/entry details (point #5) should help quickly fill out Part 7 of the citizenship form (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/N-400.pdf).

Since you can study under H4 you cannot apply for F1 (My wife tried that already) :)
What if the spouse (H1B holder) has to leave the country for some reason, say for an year? Then how is the student supposed to maintain his/her status?
So, I don't think that is true. If you get admission as a full time student, then you should be eligible for F1. My husband did this successfully in 2001.

Your lawyer is probably correct. This has to do with IO who are not aware of AC21 laws. But make sure your employer did not have any issues with DOL, USCIS in responding to RFEs related to other employees like H1 RFE, ability to pay , etc which may be used against your application.

But from what I understand, a lot of people still don't know about IV and we must make more attempts to spread the word. Many people just don't know or understand the concept of IV. When we want them to join, the get suspecious and cautious and stay away. The idea here is to reach more and more people. IV is better organized now than what it was before and as people start to realise, they will come forward. Remember, IV is a concept and a platform andwill always stay. people may come and go - there will always be people motivated at different levels.

He contacted his senator to get the total number of pending EB apps for India.
Please see the response from the senator in the following link. It has pending applications by category.
