Yes--Universties--come under non-profit as per INS, hence exempted from quota, but not Elem/Middle/High schools.

Do you guys really think this bill will become a law that too in its current state and the added amendments? I seriously doubt it. If it is then dont you think the corporate business lobby that has fought really hard to increase the h1 b's to 115000 would have just sat mum while the H1 B fees were increased? I think this bill is just getting too absurd to become into law. I dont know but it would be interesting to hear what the businesses have to say with the increase in h1b fees.

a special "Debate thread" (not fight :) ) where anything goes is probably not a bad idea at this point. where certain members who want to debate can be granted access

Its only the instigators and flamers, who would want that thread. Personal attacks should be banned on threads. Most people are happy just debating.
The person initiating or using provocation for a personal attack should be banned after a couple of warnings. The victim has no such restrictions and is allowed to retaliate as much as he wants.

You mean EAD, not AP, right? AP can be used in conjunction with EAD.
Also, you can file for both EAD and AP and not use it. Just having the two will not force you to have 1 year extenstions. You can still get 3 year extensions if you don't use EAD and AP.

Based on my understanding once 485 is filed, one can only get one year H1b extension it does not matter if one uses EAD/AP.

I think this is good news, but I am not sure if this will affect me. I have PERM approved labor on my name. I didn't apply for I-140 because I wanted my wife to get F1 visa before doing that. This is because F1 application for my wife can have problem if there is immigration petition and she is beneficiary. I don't know how much time its going to take me to get greencard or work authorization for my wife and I want her to get the advantage of OPT after completing her studies so that she can make her career.
So I guess if this rule comes, I have to apply I-140 immediately? Is this true? Please advice me.

...but remember it can be pure coincidence that your letter to 1600 Pennslyvania made any difference. Moreso when the namecheck and the approval..all happened within 2 weeks of the letter !
Anyways no harm trying any and all legal ways !
You are right.. I got a call this Wednesday from the Presidents office of initiating an inquiry on my case and again a repeated call from them on Friday that FBI Name Check has been cleared. I forgot to mention this detail in my excitement.

Called all 6 rep's offices plus my local north carolina 4th district rep David Price.
Everyone note down the bill numbers and said that they will pass on the message.. Mary Bono's office asked to call local rep office, which i did before..
Some of them were very nice and asked the address and name and all, whereas some of them just got the bill numbers and were eager to hang up the phone..
....Apart from contributing during the funding drive.. this is my first action to call reps...Felt great and encourage everyone else to give it a try....Try calling just one of them and you will feel the urge to call all of them and do your part...

We have to keep doing this... Senetor Obama mentioned 1 line about fixing Legal Immigration process, also both Senators mentioned that ILegal Immigrants will be last in the line of the process so that is a huge progress for us... These candidates have an army of people working for them, they do a lot of research go to forums, go to debate websites to see what are the pain-points, if we can get our questions in top 10 in every debate now on then Legal immigration will be in the spot light, that is half the battle won... regardless who is chosen by voters they will all have legal immigration on their agenda. Which is better to say" We want 10 people with OK intellect from 10 different countries of the world" or " We want 10 absolutely brilliant people-period"
3. Time limit on FBI namecheck.

We will update members who pledge how to finalize their pledge by any of the following methods based on subsequent expert advice:
1) Should they contribute to IV directly
2) Send a personal check to Aman.
3) Other method like IV reimbursing Aman and others from the common donation corpus.
