"We will try to score a goal and get a good result before the return game."
Unsurprisingly, Carvalho stressed a need for Real to score a goal as all three games prior to Tuesday night's clash have ended with the Spanish giants failing to find the net at the Stade de Gerland, resulting in consecutive away losses.
Carvalho knows that if his side can reverse this trend, it could be significant to Real's chances of qualifying for the quarter finals.
"We are confident because we are in a positive period, in particular at home."
"We have to do well [in Lyon] and be efficient during the return game."
Carvalho is no stranger to success in the Champions League, having won it in 2004 with Portuguese giants FC Porto, although he has also experienced disappointment with Chelsea, losing the 2008 final to Manchester United on penalties.
