Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was left furious with referee Wolfgang Stark and his officials after they failed to award a penalty in his side's 1-1 draw with Lyon at Stade Gerland.
The Portuguese tactician believed los Blancos should have been awarded a penalty in the 64th minute when a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick appeared to strike the arm of a Lyon defender in the box.
"There are decisions that are complicated and there are situations that leave no doubt to anyone. The play was five metres away from the referee but four eyes in total were not able to see what we all saw. I'm very angry," the coach told Spanish media after the game.
However, Mourinho was more upbeat in regards to his side's chances of progression to the quarter-finals.
"We have taken a step forward. It's the first time we have scored a goal in Lyon. Everything is left open against a quality opponent but I hope the Bernabeu helps the team create a magical European night."
